I have talked about Johanna Lindsey in another book. This one has got to be one of my favorite books by her. I don’t know the exact reason behind the my love for this book. It could be because of how one sister goes out of her way to not be who she truly is and the hero sees through it. It could be because the male role is depicted by a man who is also struggling to be who he wants to be. Whatever the reason, A Man to Call My Own is just spectacularly good!

from Booklist: Amanda and Marian Laton are identical twins who couldn’t be more different. Amanda, the apple of her father’s eye, is a spoiled, jealous young woman; sweet-hearted Marian, in an effort to be as unlike her sister as possible, strives to make herself plain and undesirable. Set in the 1870s, this historical romance by the prolific Lindsey begins when Amanda and Marian’s father dies in their hometown of Haverhill, Mass., and the twins are shipped off to Texas. Under the provisions of their father’s will, they cannot claim their inheritances until they are married, and in the meantime they must live with their aunt, Kathleen Dunn, a widowed rancher nicknamed Red. Life on the ranch is much too rustic for Amanda, but Marian enjoys the country living-and her brushes with Chad Kinkaid, heir to a ranching fortune, who is lending Red a helping hand. Hiding behind thick-lensed spectacles she doesn’t need, Marian tries to deflect Chad, afraid that if she shows an interest in him her mean-spirited twin will lure him away.

Jenna Petersen knew she wanted to be a writer at a very young age and had a very specific image of what that meant. In her mind, she would live in Los Angeles (why not New York… who knows?), attend book signings, drive a very expensive car and date endlessly (and apparently, unsuccessfully). There was little actual writing involved in the fantasy…to read more check out her website. http://jennapetersen.com/

Jane Fenton is certain that her brother is lost in London’s notorious underground, not dead as he has been declared. The infamous Viscount Nicholas Stoneworth has just returned from that dangerous world, where he lived for many years as a fighter. When the innocent Jane approaches the dissolute Viscount for help finding her sibling, he offers her a bargain. If she helps him relearn the niceties of Society, he will use his questionable connections to locate her brother. Though each believes their part of the bargain is an impossible task, they agree for their own sakes. But as the two begin to work closely together, Jane discovers there is much more to the angry ex-pugilist than Society believes. And Nicholas finds a pillar of strength beneath Jane’s soft exterior.

But Nicholas’s drive to withhold the truth about Jane’s brother may threaten the fragile bond between beauty and her beast. And his triumphant return to society may end any chance they have of ever being together.

Ms. Petersen has written a sensational novel where she pits Jane’s pure innocence against Nicholas’ jaded past in Her Notorious Viscount. Where everyone else in Jane’s life sees her as some weak-kneed woman, he sees her as the strong, stubborn, and determined woman she really is. The Stoneworth family’s view of Nicholas is no better, seeing him as a worthless drunkard, fighter, and libertine while Jane sees him for the man he truly is. My favorite element of this tale is how the characters not only learn so much about each other, they learn how their fight for survival has made them a better person, someone they can be proud of and who can be loved for who they are, jaded past or not. This historical romance is a beautiful composition with a sweet tone, exquisite wording, passionate love scenes, and steamy tension. Then I picked up Johanna Lindsey’s Prisoner of my Desire and was swept away. I have been an avid reader ever since.

The year is 1152 and, as a woman, Lady Rowena Belleme has no rights. Her evil stepbrother, Gilbert d’Ambray, desires control over as much English land as possible and has pledged Rowena’s hand to Lyons of Kirkburough-a man so near death he is a walking corpse. Rowena at first refuses, but Gilbert threatens to kill Rowena’s mother if she does not comply. Before the marriage can be consummated, Lyons dies and Rowena celebrates her good fortune, until Gilbert arrives with a new plot-Rowena must become pregnant before Lyons’s death is announced. For three nights, Rowena lies with a handsome stranger kidnapped by Gilbert’s men. Ashamed at the mistreatment of the man and knowing that Gilbert plans to kill him, Rowena helps him escape. Soon after, Kirkburough is attacked by Gilbert’s nemesis Lord Fulkhurst. Rowena is captured and taken to the Fulkhurst dungeon, where Lord Warrick de Chaville cruelly strips Rowena of her title and forces her to become his serf. Despite their passionate hatred of one another, a fervor smolders between them, igniting passion of another kind. Warrick, always feared by the fairer sex, is intrigued by Rowena, who is not afraid of him. Rowena, accustomed to men using her for their own gain, is astonished that Warrick truly cares about her. But will their newfound love be enough to overcome Gilbert’s vengeful wrath?

Author Bio: I made it! I’m finally here! My first book, Lord Of Desire, will hit the bookshelves August, 2005.

It’s been a long road.

I’ve always loved stories. I was fortunate to have a mother who not only read to me, but made up tales of her own. My luck continued as I grew up. Fourth grade was one of my favorite years as a student. Some things you just never forget, like Sister Joseph Anne and her original stories about the adventures of Jane and Fifi at Avocado Green. I could have sat at my desk for the next ten years and listened to her…Check out her website for more info on her other works and more about this very talented author. http://paulaquinn.com/

This was the first novel of Paula Quinn’s that I had ever read. But since then I have not only read other works of hers, but I keep going back to this one. There is something about a story that surrounds a woman and her enemy that gets to me. I just love the conflict and the emotional highs and lows that happen within the storyline.

Lord Brand “the Passionate” Risande defeated Lady Brynnafar Dumont’s father in battle and has now come to claim the Dumont castle. Brynna vows to do whatever it takes to protect her family’s Saxon retainers, even if it means marrying the conquering Norman brute. When Brynna finally meets Brand, she is shocked to discover that he is the man she briefly encountered a year before who has since haunted her every romantic fantasy. Suddenly, the idea of wedding the sinfully sexy nobleman becomes much more appealing, but Brand, who caught his former betrothed in the throes of passion with another man, has no interest in marriage. Brynna knows that earning Brand’s trust and love will not be easy, but she is determined that this is one battle she will definitely win.

Erica Ridley learned to read when she was three, which was about the same time she decided to be a writer when she grew up. Over the course of her school years, she graduated from self-illustrated stories written in crayon to dramatic sagas filling reams of spiral notebooks. Now, Erica writes Regency-set historical romances, often with a touch of paranormal. Since becoming active in the writing community, all of her manuscripts have finaled in or won various RWA chapter contests. Erica is also the webmistress of her local writing chapter.

From the first few pages, Ms. Ridley had me within her clasp as her gripping and chilling novel took me from my own home into a story full of suspense, mystery, passion, mayhem, and a setting full of secret tunnels and deceptive characters. Too Wicked To Kiss shows us how one woman running from her own torturous home is thrust into the lives of people surrounded by a past just as dark and deadly as her own. I found myself comparing the dark and enigmatic Gavin to a certain brooding man in another classic gothic novel, Jane Eyre. I absolutely adored Evangeline’s quick wit, unguarded passion, strong nature, and even the cursed gift that allows her to see into someone’s memories with a simple touch. As the passion and storyline unfolds, the reader will find themselves questioning who the murderer is until the very end…when all will be revealed.

http://www.kathycarmichael.com Author Bio: Welcome to the world of Kathy Carmichael where there are evil dust bunnies and troublesome trolls lying in wait around each bend, ready to make you laugh and smile and discover your inner child.

This book was so laugh-out-loud funny that even a year later I shake my head at all the antics the characters did within the pages. I love a good comedic book but sometimes a novel can be both funny and yet not as greatly written as you hope. Luckily for us, Hot Flash is NOT one of those. From the first page until the last, you will find yourself enthralled not only with the humorous and outrageous events but the very cadence and flow of the author’s words.

Synopsis:

Calm, cool, and premenopausal?

In this laugh-out-loud story about self discovery and coming to terms with aging, forty-year-old Jill Morgan Storm sets out to find the man of—if not her dreams, her son’s college tuition. Thanks to survey responses from couples celebrating significant anniversaries, she’s discovered the secret to a successful marriage: a man who travels. When she “auditions” traveling salesmen, she’s hoping for one week of marital bliss, three weeks off, and a monthly paycheck. Will she find herself and the man of her schemes?

My Review: “Maybe life is not like a box of Tampax. Perhaps it is more like a Goodwill store. There are useless items all over the place, but you never know when you will uncover a treasure.” I love, love, love this book! Ms. Carmichael has written a sensational novel that will leave you laughing throughout all of Jill’s hijinks. Hot Flash is the story of what one woman will go through to give her child all he deserves. The way Jill jumps blindly into dating and comes out smelling like a disaster is hilarious. I especially loved the bikini wax episode. This is a book that has feel good chick flick movie written all over it. Pay attention book and movie fans alike because I would not be surprised to see this on the big screen! A laugh-out-loud treasure of a book for women and mothers of all ages!

Author Bio: Might as well use the professional bio here — this is the one my publisher uses on my books Award-winning author Kelley St. John’s previous experience as a senior writer at NASA fueled her interest in writing action-packed suspense, although she also enjoys penning steamy romances and quirky women’s fiction. Since 2000, St. John has obtained over fifty writing awards, including the National Readers’ Choice Award, and was elected to the Board of Directors for Romance Writers of America. Basically, I write romance for Warner and for Harlequin Blaze. I always dreamed of writing fiction and seeing my name on the shelf, and that dream has come true — yea!!!

Synopsis: In high school, Bill Brannon was head over heels for his childhood friend Lettie Campbell. Twelve years later, Bill has almost forgotten his crush on the wild and feisty Lettie. Almost. But when fate reunites them, he realizes that some opportunities shouldn’t be missed. Lettie Campbell wants to start her own business designing lingerie. Her dream is going to become a reality with the cash she’s bringing in as a cheating consultant at My Alibi, a company that lies for cheaters 24/7. When her sister, Amy, asks her to help a friend by providing an alibi, Lettie agrees. Lying to strangers is easy. But lying to the friend you’ve had since third grade is hard. As the lies pile up and Lettie and Bill burn up the sheets, she will have to come clean. Because the person she’s lying to is Bill, and no amount of lies will help her when he discovers that he’s been conned.

Why this book? Again with the humor! First off though was the bittersweet feelings Bill has for his friend Lettie. When they meet up again years later, she finds herself talking about her g-spot to him without even realizing it! From there it is one hilarious moment after another. This is a great story wtih a HEA that will have you laughing, chuckling, and just make you feel great.

http://heidibetts.com/

Author Bio: Bestselling, award-winning author Heidi Betts began her love affair with the romance genre in junior high school, where she used to sneak romance novels into study hall when she should have been doing her homework. It didn’t take long to decide she wanted to write a few romances of her own, so she set out to do just that.

Her first book was released by Dorchester Publishing in 2000, with five more to follow. From there, Heidi moved into the contemporary arena by writing numerous category titles for Silhouette Desire, and recently she signed with St. Martin’s Press to begin writing funny, sexy single titles.

With each new book, Heidi asks herself how she can bring to life endearing heroes and heroines whom readers will believe are meant for each other. A with each new novel to hit the stands, readers and reviewers alike declare she knows how to create a story that sizzles, charms, and delights from the first page to the last. Her first title for Silhouette Desire landed at #1 on the Waldenbooks/Borders Series Romance Bestseller List, where her books have continued to make an appearance ever since.

Heidi loves to read, write, watch movies (and just a little too much television), and surround herself with furry, four-legged friends in her home in the beautiful hills of Central Pennsylvania.

THIS IS KNOT YOUR AVERAGE LOVE STORY
Jenna Langan knows what she wants, and as she tells her best friends after their weekly knitting group, she doesn’t need a man to give it to her…only a few of his best swimmers. And just because her marriage to undercover vice cop Gage Marshall ended badly doesn’t mean he can’t still give her the baby she’s always wanted. In fact, she’s willing to bet a couple of her favorite hand-knit boas that she can tie him up in knots he’ll definitely enjoy…

BUT TRUE LOVE IS MORE THAN JUST SKEIN DEEP
An unexpected seduction is one thing, but stud service? No, thank you. Gage had his reasons for pulling the plug on his happily ever after with Jenna, and nothing that’s happened since their divorce has changed his mind. That is, until Jenna got it into her head to tie him up and drag him down. Now he has no choice but to stick around until he knows for sure if his ex-wife is pregnant. But the more time he spends with Jenna, the more his resolve begins to unravel…

Here is part of my review: Ms. Betts writes a story in such a way that pulls the reader in and has them feel as if they are part of the script themselves. Loves Me, Loves Me Knot is a wonderfully funny and yet heartbreaking tale of what happens after the fact in a divorce between two people who should never have gone down that road in the first place. Pitting a six foot three alpha male cop against a five foot three school teacher may seem kind of unfair, but in my opinion he stood up fairly well and held his own, at least for the most part. The emotional highs and lows had the storyline coming off as very realistic and believable, and made getting to the heart of their problems all the more poignant. A remarkable novel that will have any book lover scrambling to find more stories from this incredibly talented author!

To read my full review, go here: http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/BookReviews/lovesmelovesmeknotchickswithsticksbook2.html

After reading and reviewing this book I did what I call my happy book dance. Meaning I stood up, sighed, and with a very sappy smile on my face proceeded to act like a total dork! But that is how Heidi Betts makes you feel. Her witty, sarcastic, and ironic voice of writing extends quite a bit farther than just her written works. Just check out her blog to see what I mean: http://www.heidibetts.com/wipsandchains/. She is the kind of author that makes you laugh at how outlandish her characters are and makes you just feel good. Even months after you have read her book, you will spot her book cover and it will have you cracking up all over again, just thinking about all those zany stunts pulled. She is an automatic buy for me. In fact, she has another book coming out tomorrow and I am literally scrounging around underneath my couch cushions looking for loose change just so I can buy her next book. That should tell you how wonderful and talented she is as an author. You will not be disappointed!

DISASTER NUMBER ONE: MEN
Hard knocks and hunger taught Faith Duffy not to believe in love. Still, when she married her very wealthy—and very old—husband, she became the perfect wife. He gave her security; she gave him fidelity and loyalty, but not her heart. And then he went to that big bank in the sky, leaving Faith with a lot of lonely nights, a pile of money, and a total mess of a pro hockey team. Heck, Faith doesn’t even watch hockey!

DISASTER NUMBER TWO: PASSION
But most of America and half of Canada is watching Ty Savage, team captain. His lethal sex appeal and deadly right hook make him the favorite of hockey fans. For most of Ty’s life, he’s dreamed of winning the Stanley cup. The last thing he needs is a gold-digging bimbo messing up his plans.

DISASTER NUMBER THREE: LOVE
Faith loathes Ty on sight, but she can’t stop thinking about him all day…and all night. Then a night of temptations ends with Faith in Ty’s bed, and she begins to see there’s more to him than sex appeal and slap shots. Ty discovers there’s far more to Faith than beauty and billions. A relationship with Faith is impossible, and falling in love—would be a disaster.

I chose this book for a couple of very simple reasons. 1) Because when someone is knocked down repeatedly, made fun of, told they can’t do something, or are just plain stupid to accomplish something…it makes me thrilled to see them prove everyone wrong. With Faith, that is exactly what I like to see! 2) Is the humor. I have said repeatedly I love humor in books, and Rachel Gibson has boatloads of humor.

When I found out we were doing Happily Ever After themed Blog this month, True Love and Other Disasters was definitely one of the first books I thought of. Trust me, you will love it to.

And check out Rachel Gibson’s website for some more awesome books and to learn how she began storytelling thanks to a simple car crash… www.rachelgibson.com

Michelle’s Bio: I was born in Auckland, New Zealand, and lived next door to Titirangi Golf Course, which makes me a bonda fide ‘Westie’. Our house had the (then) standard kiwi quarter-acre section, and my brother and sisters and I treated the golf course like an extension of our back garden. My first attempt at writing was a romance about Elton John and a kiwi girl after I saw Elton at Western Springs during the Yellow Brick Road tour when I was thirteen. Hearing ‘Funeral For A Friend’ and ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ still gives me goosebumps.

To read more about this very talented author, check out her interview here: http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/Interviews/MichelleHolman.html

Synopsis: What would happen if an Angel decided to play Devil’s Advocate?

After a head-on collision between a glamorous sports car and a serviceable but very plain little car, a kind-hearted angel does a swap in Heaven’s waiting room.

A short, feisty rugby-loving schoolteacher gets a second chance and finds herself in hospital in the body of a tall, glamorous, philandering American wife. She has a wealthy, drop-dead gorgeous husband who looks as if he’s just stepped out of a romance novel – but for some reason he can’t stand the sight of her.

She thinks she’s gone crazy, and if she tells anyone they’ll know she has . . . and lock her up. They’ll think she’s bonkers. And she can’t run away and hide: she’s got a broken leg.

Why did I choose this book? Well first off I love humor in books! If a book makes me laugh then I am pretty much hooked. But it cannot be just any type of humor. I have a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Most people don’t get me nor do they get what I consider funny. My husband gave up on making me laugh a LONG time ago. Bonkers has a very witty, dry, sarcastic, and yet emotionally charged sense of humor that will have you wanting to both laugh and cry. Secondly, the fact that Lisa gets a second chance at life, love, and big boobs helps. Can you imagine going from being practically flat chested to having very nice cushiony and REAL breasts overnight? What a fantastic idea! Check it out. It is one book I feel has a very happy ending and one I am sure to reread.

And while you are checking out her website, take a look at her blog. You will see what I mean about humor! http://www.michelleholman.com/

Cynthia graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Alabama where she studied Sociology (because people interest her) and Communication (because she likes to write about said people). She worked as a journalist on her university’s paper (yes, she’s admitted to a not-so-secret desire to be Lois Lane). Later, as she traveled the long and bumpy road to romance publication, Cynthia was employed as a college counselor and as a teacher.

Eternal Hunger starts off with a powerful momentum that carries throughout the novel, keeping the reader hungry for more. Cynthia Eden takes her book to the edge and beyond with the intensity of a first-rate, action-packed tale that is so sexually charged, I felt like I was going to self-combust as I read the heat filled moments. Jude is such a strong alpha male that you cannot help but fall for him, as he is the perfect hero for a strong heroine. Erin, who has always been told she is weak, is such an amazingly strong woman that when you read the way she not only survives but comes to save the day, you cannot help but smile and thrust your fist in the air and shout “you go girl!” A must read novel, one that I will be reading over and over again for years to come and I definitely hope to see more characters from this amazing author in the future!

Leave ice cream out to soften. While waiting for it to soften, take some of the whoppers and put into a bag and crush. Add to the softened ice cream until desired consistancy. Spread into pie crust. Add more crushed whoppers. Top with Whipped Cream, hardshell chocolate, and cherries. Add more whoppers, both crushed and whole. Cover and put in freezer for at least two hours. Enjoy.

**As an added note: you can use whichever candied topping you prefer. We just love the whoppers, that is why I used them.

I don’t really use cookbooks that much. However, there was a set of my grandmother’s old cookbooks I absolutely loved. There were 22 books in the whole set and I had every single one. I have no idea how old they were, but I found hints of their age stuck between the pages of some of the books. I always found it thrilling to find some of my grandmother’s outdated coupons, especially considering they were dated for the 1960’s and 1970’s. The set was The Better Homes and Gardens Complete Cookbook with a separate book for Glossary. Unfortunately when we moved, my husband figured I didn’t need the old dusty cookbooks and left them behind to be put in the rubbish with the rest of the garbage.

Now, I use the web for most of my recipes. One of my favorite sites is http://allrecipes.com . I signed up for a free account and get daily recipes in my inbox. Then when I don’t want the same old dinner, I go through the recipes I have saved and look to see what sounds good. I have tried Slow Cooker Pineapple Pork, Easy Garlic Chicken, Simple Country Ribs, and Restaurant style Egg Drop Soup to name a few.

From there I have to tell everyone about the great recipe finds, so I hop on over to our forum http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=58 where I share my recipes with anyone who wants to try something new. Then I will peek at some of the goodies already stored in the different threads.

If by some chance neither one of these great websites have what I am looking for, I click over to http://www.massrecipes.com/ where I found great entrees like Almond Boneless Chicken.

My point in this all I guess is that I love being able to go on the web, type in what I am looking for and find something that sounds delicious and different. But I do miss my books. Because they have something that no cooking website can ever have, no matter how fantastic and wide-ranged it is. My books had personality, heart, soul, and a history. And don’t forget all the cooking stains! It showed that they were used and used good.

So whether you are a web surfer like me or a cookbook cooker like my grandmother, remember that putting your own flair in your cooking can make the difference between a good dish and a spectacular one!

Since I don’t have much to add to this month’s book brew I figured I would instead add a couple of my recipes I like to make. This first dessert is one of my own. I came up with this when I was looking to make a birthday cake for my daughter. I was tired of making the same old same old so I decided on a whim to make a new cake up. And this was what I ended up with.

Ingredients:

1 Yellow Cake Mix (any brand)

2 8″ round or square cake pans

2 small packages instant vanilla pudding mix (any brand)

1 8 ounce tub whipped topping (any brand)

2 pounds strawberries (sliced) (divided into these increments 1/2 pound, 1/2 pound, 1 pound)

Cake:

1 Yellow Cake Mix (any brand)

2 8″ round or square cake pans

Bake as directed, preferably the night before. Once cooled, flip onto plates so the tops become the bottoms and cover with plastic wrap.

Filler:

1 small package Instant French Vanilla Pudding (any brand)

**Make as directed for pudding and put in fridge to chill.

Frosting:

1 small package Instant French Vanilla Pudding (any brand)

1 Cup Milk

1 8 ounce tub whipped topping (any brand)

1/2 pound fresh strawberries (sliced)

**Mix milk, pudding, and whipped topping until smooth. Add strawberries and blend. Set in fridge overnight.

Completing:

Uncover two cakes. In between the two cakes add a thin layer of pudding. Top with about 1/2 pound sliced strawberries, or until cake is covered in 1 layer of fruit. Set second cake atop the strawberries. Frost the whole cake, paying special attention to covering sides. Once cake is completely frosted, use 1 pound sliced strawberries (may need less) to cover cake. Enjoy!

**As an added note…I found using frozen strawberries did not have the same effect. It watered down the frosting too much and it would not set.

***For a less complicated but just as tasty cake, make the standard 9 by 13 cake. Omit the pudding needed for the layer. Frost cake and add strawberries on top.

(Author Bio courtesy of her website) Now that her two children have reached their twenties, Angie and her husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Turner and Hooch and Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards–one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out pawtographs at the airport.

Let Darkness Come is one tale that will keep you reading and guessing until the very end. Angela Hunt has written a very gripping novel, one that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved how Erin and Briley became each others’ support systems in different ways, which connects the reader and brings them deeper into the storyline. The different sensations that poured out of this book were amazing and had me on an emotional roller coaster and biting my nails to the quick. Giving this novel a five cup rating seems almost like an insult and I surely wish I could give it more; it is just…that…good!

The original story written by O. Henry was published in 1906. I read this story first in middle school, but it has had such a profound effect on me that it is my all-time favorite Christmas story. I never tire of hearing this selfless story of how far a husband and wife will go to please each other. While it may seem to be all about greed, the underlying story is very touching. Around the holidays, you will find that others have picked up the storyline and given it their own twist. Some famous stars include Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

O. Henry’s classic tale of the wisest gifts of Christmas, brought to life by P.J. Lynch’s extraordinary art, is itself a gift to share and treasure.

In a shabby New York flat, Della sobs as she counts the few coins she has saved to buy a Christmas present for her husband, Jim. A gift worthy of her devotion will require a great sacrifice: selling her long, beautiful hair. Jim, meanwhile, has made a sacrifice for Della that is no less difficult. As they exchange gifts on Christmas Eve, the discovery of what each has done fills them with despair, until they realize that the true gifts of Christmas can be found more readily in their humble apartment than in any fine store. O. Henry paints a masterly portrait of unfaltering love, a haven from the harsh world outside. The poignancy of his story is captured in P.J. Lynch’s eloquent art, wherein every glance, every gesture, tells a subtle truth.

Author Bio: Monica Robinson has been writing novels and short stories since the age of twelve. Having dabbled in poetry, YA, and even horror, she found her calling in romance writing. When she isn’t busy staring at her computer screen, she’s chasing her two rambunctious children, fishing the Puget Sound area with her husband, whom she lovingly refers to as her “grown-up child”, or can be found with her nose buried in a juicy romance novel.

Ms. Robinson has outdone herself with this amazing holiday story. One of the distinctive traits of Twelve Days of Bliss is that both main characters are described as being a “scrooge”, which gives this old tale a unique and new twist. I have fallen in love with both Brian and Angel, especially as they struggle to keep their feelings aloof even as they begin to fall in love. The complications of their everyday lives are both heartbreaking and realistic, making this story that much more believable and emotional. With erotic scenes full of passion and a love story that will have you sighing, you do not want to miss this Christmas tale that is sure to be a favorite among readers for many years to come!

Author Bio courtesy of her website: http://janetchapman.com/books.htm

As I sit here, trying to put into words who I am, I can’t help but think of hats. I know it’s an old, time-worn cliché, but hats fit (no pun intended). Like everyone else, I wear many hats; daughter, sister, wife, mother… teacher and student, philosopher, dreamer… and now – officially – romance writer. I began as a daughter, born in northern Maine, the last of five children. Over the years I picked up several new hats, each of them adding warmth and texture to my life. In 1977 I became a wife, in 1981 a mother (I liked it so much I did it again in 1984). And as each new hat was added, I found that I’ve became stronger, more comfortable with the fit, and happier.

Why I picked The Highlander Series for a Holiday Book Brew with the Coffee Crew…

These books are not technically a Christmas book, although Book 7 probably is considering what it is entitled. But the fact that each novel is full of snow, snow, and more snow…just kidding. Really though, I consider these Christmas books because not only are they about surviving harsh winters in Maine, but it is about becoming a unit. A unity of family as well as neighbors. The fact that they are about hunky time travelling highlanders helps as well. Oh yeah…and many of the female roles were born on the Winter Solstice.

Book 1: Charming the Highlander: A feisty beauty tempted by a bold highlander’s touch…When a plane crash strands brilliant scientist Grace Sutter on an icy mountaintop in Maine, she finds herself alone in the wilderness with the only other surviving passenger — Greylen MacKeage, a sexy, medieval warrior who’s been tossed through time to find the woman he’s destined to love. Forced together to survive the harsh, wintry landscape, neither expects the fierce passion that flares between them. But Grace is not used to letting her heart take control, and Greylen will settle for nothing less than her heart’s surrender….

Book 2: Loving the Highlander: A tempestuous passion begins with a battle of wills… When Sadie Quill comes upon an unbelievably gorgeous man lying naked beside a lake, she can’t resist taking his photo — and is quickly trapped in a passionate confrontation with the fierce stranger. Discovering the identity of this irresistible warrior will complicate Sadie’s search for a legendary gold mine. For he is Morgan MacKeage, a medieval highlander in modern-day Maine, a man with the fury of the untamed wilderness pounding in his veins — and the power to unlock Sadie’s fragile heart.

Book 3: Wedding the Highlander: A runaway beauty finds love in the brawny arms of a handsome stranger. Talented surgeon Libby Hart is fleeing to Pine Creek, Maine, when her car spins out of control and crashes into a pond. She is rescued by Michael MacBain, a medieval highlander trapped in the modern world by a wizard’s spell. Wounded in love once before by a modern woman, Michael wants nothing to do with Libby, but he can’t resist the intense desire she stirs within him. Can this proud warrior pledge his heart to a woman whose secret threatens to change their lives forever.

Book 4: Tempting the Highlander: She has the power to tempt him beyond all reason…. Catherine Daniels arrives in Pine Creek, Maine, at just the right time for Robbie MacBain. She is on the run from her ex-husband, and Robbie is a sexy, single foster parent who needs a housekeeper while he travels back in time to medieval Scotland. Unbeknownst to Catherine, Robbie’s looking for a book of spells to save the future of his family…and little did he expect to find a burning passion in Catherine’s arms. Can Robbie seal his family’s fate while enticing Catherine to follow him and her own heart wherever love will take them?

Book 5: Only with a Highlander: She must choose between her destiny…and her desire. As soon as Pine Creek’s new mystery man steps into her art gallery, Winter MacKeage is intrigued. This sexy stranger, Matt Gregor, wants her to do some drawings of his dream house. And with his tiger-gold eyes and masculine charm, he’s impossible to resist. But so is Winter’s Scottish heritage. As the seventh MacKeage daughter, she must embrace her true magical calling…and deny her mortal desires. Soon Winter is heating up — in Matt’s strong arms — and her fiery heart is torn. Can she give up the destiny she was born to fulfill for the only man she’s ever truly loved?

Book 6: Secrets of a Highlander: He is the father of her child, but the secrets they are hiding are tearing them apart … Megan MacKeage escaped the smothering protectiveness of the Highland MacKeage clan to work as a scientist on the Canadian tundra. But when fellow researcher Wayne Ferris breaks her heart by rejecting her, Megan returns to Maine alone…. Then she meets the town’s new police chief, Jack Stone – the man she knew as Wayne Ferris. Instead of the quiet scholar he posed as, he’s an aggressive private eye who’s willing to fight for what he wants, just like all the overbearing men in her clan. So why is Megan still feeling a dangerous attraction? And though Jack claims he followed her here because he loves her, can she ever trust a man with so many secrets?

Book 7: A Highlander Christmas: Camry MacKeage has absolutely no intention of telling her parents that she left her job as a NASA physicist for the small-town life of a dog-sitter — which is why she’s spending the holidays alone in coastal Maine with her furry friends Tigger and Max. Unfortunately, her irresistibly handsome rival, scientist Luke Pascal, accidentally spilled the beans. Now he’s on a mission from her mother to tempt Camry home for the family’s annual winter solstice celebration. But Luke is hiding his own secret, and he’ll need a little bit of magic to earn Camry’s trust…and a whole lot of mistletoe to seduce his way into her heart.

Author Bio: Debbie loves to tell the story of her struggle to get published, and the five-year search to find a publisher who would buy one of her manuscripts. Dyslexic and the mother of four young children, she wrote those early books in her kitchen on a rented typewriter. But her hard work and determination paid off. Her first manuscript, HEARTSONG, acquired by Silhouette Books in 1982, became the first category romance ever to be reviewed by the Publishers Weekly. She was soon featured in Newsweek—and demand for her books quickly exceeded her wildest dreams.

Take a woman who can hear her biological clock ticking and pit her against a doctor whose every word is rude and whose demeanor is the epitome of impoliteness, and you have The Perfect Christmas. Ms. Macomber has once again written a fantastic tale full of hilarious events, life altering realizations, and the ultimate goal of falling in love. This book is the perfect complement for the holiday season and has got to be the best novel yet penned by this amazing author. It is a definite repeat read for me!

I chose this as one of the CTRR Awards, so some of you may recognize it from then. However, being that our theme is Christmas and this is a definite Christmas tale with a message of hope, forgiveness, and growing up I wanted to include it again.

Author bio: I live in Portland, Maine, with my husband Stephen, an architect and photographer, and our amazingly fabulous cats, Jack, Betty and Cyrus. When I’m not writing, I usually can be found with my head in a book. I try to read widely; still, I do play favorites with authors such as Peter Ackroyd and Patrick McGrath.

One Week in December is a heartfelt story of the struggles that Becca goes through as she contemplates tearing her family apart. Ms. Chamberlin writes with unimaginable talent, enough so that each angry feeling and hurtful plea that fell from Becca’s lips had me wanting to rave against all those who have done her wrong. Unbelievably, as the character’s feelings of betrayal turned into something else, and the revelations began to unfold within her mind, I found myself just as easily accepting what was going on within the novel. This outstanding book will pull you into the storyline and have you feeling as if you have been sucker punched as each emotion and event unfurls within the pages. A must read book for all!
