When I was a teenager, I despised horror movies. I was a complete wimp. Wanted nothing to do with them. I couldn’t stand being startled. But of course, my two best friends were really into them. They wanted nothing more than to watch every Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and Jason movie ever made. Since it was two-to-one, I spent a lot of time cringing behind a pillow and refusing to go to the bathroom alone.
BUT, if you gave me a Stephen King book, I was happy as a clam. What was the difference? Well, for one thing, nothing JUMPS out at you while flipping a page. All the horror is mental, not visual or auditory. My imagination is, while I can’t really control it, really familiar. All the boogeymen in my head are completely stuck there. They can’t leap out and actually get me.
While those guys you see on TV? You SEE them. Therefore it’s possible they might exist. No thank you.
Since I grew up and peer pressure is less of a factor, I have kept my resolve not to watch any more horror movies. Even when I began writing an erotic horror novella for Ellora’s Cave, SINFUL TRUTH, I stayed away from any research that might make me crawl underneath my bed and sob like a scared child.
A scaredypants wrote an erotic horror story? Yup. She sure did. And if I do say so myself, it’s pretty darn creepy.

But, as for the horror/sexy persepctive, I think we all like the excitement of being scared enough to be dared to do what our fantasies beg us to. That's why Vampires get all the "good" press. They are a danger, a parasite, but they are usually sexy as hell and the thought of what they could do intrigues us.
As a writer myself, Para/Rom's…I like bringing the hauntingly creepy into the bedroom, making the Hero/Heroine face their fears and then have great sex to quiet their over-active imaginations. It's fun. It's tantilizing.

I find it hard to believe you don't like scary movies! I've always adored a good horror flick, even as a child. My mom had to hide the horro movies because I loved to watch them. Actually, it's a little creepy how much I like them. I love to be scared. LOVE IT! In fact, I almost prefer to watch horror movies by myself when my hubby is working nights just so I get that strange adrenaline rush from the fright. I know, I know, I've been told that's not normal. But I'm okay with that. Your book sounds like my kind of read!

I can't watch scary movies, either, but I love a good scary book. Unfortunately, my imagination is very good, and the story will stick with me for a long time. I still get creeped out my the image of the little boy vampire in Stephan King's Salem's Lot, floating by his brother's bedroom window, trying to wheedle his way inside. <Shudders>
Annnd, now I'm not going to sleep tonight.
