Daisy Merrick is opinionated and not afraid to speak her mind. Her problem is, in 1896 London, employers do not find that to be an asset. She has a dream of becoming a published author, but her sister, Lucy, thinks she should find a more secure way of making a living. Filling in for the critic at the Social Gazette might prove to be the making or breaking of Daisy’s dream.
Sebastian Grant is the Earl of Avermore. His latest play has been reviewed by the paper, which is owned by the same company who publishes his books. When he receives the scathing review from the critic at the Social Gazette, he becomes infuriated. His play is closed abruptly and his worst fear is about to be realized: he will have to produce a new manuscript. What comes next is not what he expected from his publisher, Marlowe Publishing.
Lord Marlowe finds a spark he likes inside of Daisy. After reading her first manuscript, he decides she has talent but she has a lot to learn. Sebastian needs a refreshing kick in the pants in order to get back to writing the quality product people expect from him. Lord Marlowe puts these two together in the hopes that they can teach other a few things about writing. Daisy will stand up to Sebastian’s stubborn streak, and Sebastian will help Daisy make her stories flow more smoothly. Will Lord Marlowe’s plan work or will these two give up?
A historical romance about a reviewer and the man to which she has given a bad review… a brilliant plot for a story. Daisy is so strong willed and opinionated. I love that about her. Then you add in Sebastian. He is a wonder to behold. He is confident in his life, but not his writing. He is a hero with flaws. Ms. Guhrke gave me a story that exceeded any expectations I could have had. I cannot say enough about this book. The characters are so alive and the settings are described in a way which makes you feel like you are in London. I would highly recommend picking up this book. It is being placed on my shelf so I can revisit Daisy and Sebastian whenever I have the urge to do so.
