The breast cancer fund raising event in honor of his mother is a huge success, and Holt Forrester could not be more thrilled. Losing his mother at such a young age left Holt feeling very isolated and alone, a trait that he has propagated throughout his life.
The roar of the crowds at a NASCAR race is almost as exciting for Emma-Lee Dalton as jumping out of a plane. She loves the rush, and even more she loves the people she gets to work with every day.
Holt is thrilled that so many people came out to BASE jump for cancer; he just never imagined that he would be used as target practice, although he cannot say he is disappointed. Emma-Lee lands square in the lap of the event’s host, and it sets off a firestorm of sensation for both of them. The instant attraction Holt feels for Emma-Lee hits him like a ton of bricks, but he quickly tries to use those bricks to shore up his heart. The fear of losing his heart to her is a very real and present danger, but he is quite certain that someone as loving and caring as Emma-Lee deserves so much more than he is capable of giving.
The honesty and caring of the characters in this book really tug at your heart-strings, and they clearly show that no one is left untouched by the ravages of cancer. And while that dreadful reality is very well done within these pages, I do feel at times that it almost overshadows the relationship trying to develop between Emma-Lee and Holt. They both have such passion for life that I would love to see them really battle it out. Their charisma as well as their chemistry is just aching to break free and make this story shine.
