Atira is a warrior of the Bear People who was raised to fight and be stealthy to survive the Plains. Comfortable with her own body and her needs, she knows she wants Heath. Knowing that he wants marriage and could try to control her, she still is drawn to his body. Living for the next fight, she is there for the protection of the Warlord and his Warprize, not because of her feelings for Heath.
Heath has known the Warprize since childhood. Excited for the birth of his best friend's child, he still plans to take the opportunity to try to convince Atira to wed. Although he is worried about the Warlord's safety, he is far more concerned with his feelings for Atira. Will he convince her to spend forever with him?
With Heath determined to keep Atira and her determined not to be kept, sparks fly constantly. Although they cannot resist each other, regardless of their agendas, the chemistry keeps drawing them back together. Politics take a huge part in this story due to distrust of the people and vindictive enemies that lurk and plot against them. Will their passion be enough to keep them together?
Although this story got off to a slow start with quite a bit of back story from the previous book, it did end up being a fun read with many underlying plots. There were a lot of strings left untied, suggesting there will be more to this exciting series. Quite a few points managed to be humorous even though the primary plot was political and dramatic. Readers who pick up the story at this point will not be disappointed because the character development, humor and passion are well worth the read.
