WALTZING WITH THE WALLFLOWER
Book #1 in Wallflower Series
RACHEL VAN DYKEN AND LEAH SANDERS
Rating: 5 Cups
Ambrose Benson, the Earl of Hawthorne and the elder of twins, is extremely bored this season. To spice things up, he is challenged by his twin, Anthony, to choose a wallflower who needs to be saved and deserves to find a good match, and make her into the toast of the ton.
Cordelia Edwards is deeply embroiled in scandal because of her father’s gambling debts and her being sent to France to pay them off. Her aunt and uncle have agreed to sponsor only one season for her, so it is her only chance at getting married.
Cordelia is the wallflower chosen by Anthony for Ambrose. Very hesitant and scared of Ambrose’s attention, Cordelia tries to refuse, but is forced by her aunt and uncle. However, after spending some time with him, she feels at ease and able to be herself, while Ambrose is shocked at her beauty and wit once she is out of the horrid clothes he first saw her wearing. The bet is to make her the toast of the ton, but he cannot help himself from falling in love with her. What will happen when she finds out the truth to why he was paying her special attention? You will have to read to find out.
This is a beautifully written story. From the prologue, I was helplessly pulled into the story to know what happens and why. Both the main and supporting characters are life-like and vibrant. They come out of the page and speak to you. The humor in the story is really funny and the serious moments are very endearing. For me, very few short stories can pull you completely in, get you involved and cover all possible areas of a full-length novel. This is one of them. It made me laugh and made me cry. Loved it!
