Mira is a Nightwalker with the ability to set anything she chooses on fire. She is thus known as the Firestarter. She is in charge of the city of Savannah, the only place that has ever felt like home to her. Very powerful, she is feared by most of her kind.
Danaus is a vampire slayer. His mission is to eliminate all Nightwalkers, but he is finding that not all are evil. He has feelings for Mira and has sworn to protect her, despite the fact that she is a Nightwalker.
Mira has been summoned by the ruling body, the coven, to take her place as Elder. This position places her in even more danger than she has been in the past. The naturi are attacking humans and supernatural beings alike, and she is sent to Budapest to get them under control. Things are chaotic there with no Keeper to lead them, and to complicate matters Mira’s biological father has decided to make himself known to her.
The beginning of this book is a bit confusing. It is part of a fairly long running series and some background would have been helpful. After the first chapter or so, things get clearer and the story line is very easy to follow. Mira is a likable character with a great many issues to manage in addition to her new position as elder. She cannot trust anyone in this story; even Danaus has been blinded by the charms of a vampire’s pet. The story is action-packed and pretty violent at times, but I foresee the reader will be unable to put it down. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series soon.
