Rosalyn is a widow with a small son. Her marriage was humiliating and abusive and turned her from a vibrant and lively beauty to a shadow of herself. She lives for her son and does not ever want to marry again.
Rand is a knight and a cousin to King Edward. He is handsome, strong and brave but still carries the guilt of the death of his twin sister and his mother. He is determined never to marry.
Despite her determination never to marry again, she is ordered to marry the King’s favorite Sir Golan, who is very like in character to her first abusive husband. Her childhood hero, Rand, betrayed her by bringing her to court, but saves her by marrying her and agreeing to her demand for a marriage of convenience. But Sir Golan is not giving up on his dreams of power and riches and, now, revenge.
This is an action-packed historical tale. Rand and Rosalyn both are victims of abuse and have a lot of baggage to overcome. They are deeply in love with each other and have been for years. The king’s manipulations cause a great deal of hardship and pain to the main characters. The villains of the piece are particularly creepy and cruel. The author has given the reader memorable and vivid characters, a great setting, and a plot that will keep you turning pages until the very end.
