Historical Romance/Regency
Rating: 4 Cups

Veracity Beresford is an independent young woman of the Ton in London. She lives alone in her townhouse with her maid Henrietta since the tragic death of her parents. Her only relative is an elderly uncle who lives far away.

Draken, Lord Hazelmere is a wealthy earl and neighbor to Veracity's uncle. He is forceful, a bit arrogant, and very handsome.

Lord Hazelmere travels from Devonshire to London to bring his friend Ezekiel's niece home to care for him. Draken's high-handed manner irritates Veracity, but concern for her beloved uncle overrides this and she soon finds herself at her uncle's manor. Things are a mess there and she is soon very busy, but not too busy to think about her handsome neighbor and some strange goings on in the neighborhood. She is afraid that her uncle and the man she now loves could be involved.

This is a very well crafted Regency Romance. The characters are interesting and multidimensional. Veracity is a strong-willed but not flawless beauty and both Uncle Ezekiel and Draken are far too secretive for their own good and Veracity's. The servants range from the loyal and homey Henrietta to the slovenly and disrespectful ones of the uncle to the snobby housekeeper at Draken's home. The author has captured the spirit and customs of the times and the reader will have no problem putting themselves in the setting. The plot is interesting and at times very exciting with some very good love scenes.
