Ashe Carver is a woman, a mother, and a monster killer. When all the characteristics of her life collide, it brings new meaning to the word multitasking.
Captain Reynard cannot believe he has only weeks to live thanks to some thief stealing his urn that contains his soul. Needing help, he leaves the place he has called home for centuries and turns to Ashe for help.
Ashe is determined to help Reynard, as soon as she can stop dodging assassins and vampires after her fertility. It seems because of her sister and her undead husband’s baby making skills, some feel she is an abomination and think she would make a kick-butt mom to the undead. On top of that, she has to consider her ten-year old daughter who is caught in the cross-fires of a custody battle between Ashe and her in-laws. Just when her life seems close to bursting, she gets a case of lust for the sexy captain, which can only lead to heartbreak because if his soul is not returned to him it will kill him, and if it is returned he will be going back to the prison he calls home.
Ms. Ashwood knows how to write paranormal novels, leaving the reader with one heck of an impression of her talent. While Unchained is part of a series, everything within the novel allows the reader to understand what is going on. I like the way the Captain is shown as a man so accustomed to the dark, dank walls of the Castle that his first taste of death holds the bittersweet scent of freedom. It gives the reader a chance to really feel for the sexy Reynard as he struggles with his mortality and the way he has lived for hundreds of years. Add in the very strong Ashe and you cannot go wrong reading this novel.
