Diana Smith is an analyst for the Protectorate which oversees activity by paranormals. She is not a flamboyant beauty, but has an attractiveness that increases with familiarity. Diana is very intelligent and observant; essential in her career.
Gavin Deacon works for his alpha at Contech Security. He is a very handsome and masterful werewolf who is a bit more evolved than the others of his kind. He has made a point of studying how humans conduct their relationships.
Gavin is trying to give his mate, Diana, the romance she deserves. She is enjoying the attention but thinks Gavin will eventually end the relationship because wolves do not date their mates, they claim. A former lover targets the couple and forces them to face their feelings, if they live that long.
This is a very exciting and fast-moving story. The plot is full of action, suspense and some pretty hot love scenes. The unknown and known assailants kept me on my toes. The characters are well-developed, likable and realistic. At first, Gavin and Diana seem a bit mismatched, but as the reader gets to know them, it is obvious the two are made for each other. If the other books in the series are as exciting and sensual as this one, it looks like I have some good reading in my future.
