Pierce Waverly, the Earl of Devonmont, was sent to live with relatives at a young age. He could never understand why, but felt the sting of his parents not wanting him around. He grew into a rogue and spent years estranged from his mother after his father’s death. But all that will soon change with a letter from his mother’s companion stating his mother is ill.
Camilla Stuart was raised in an orphanage and married a vicar that did not seem to love her but needed her to help in caring for others. When her husband dies, leaving her with a young son to raise, she is hired as companion to Pierce’s mother. When she hears the hurt in Pierce’s mother’s voice about her son, she steps in to, hopefully, mend the rift between them.
Getting Pierce to see his mother seemed rather easy for Camilla, but the past has been full of secrets and hurts, and it may not be possible to repair the relationship. The connection between Pierce and Camilla is an instant attraction but before they can engage in any type of relationship, the truth must come out and the hurts of the past must be healed.
What an entertaining read this is. A range of emotions are used throughout the story from betrayal to forgiveness and love. Camilla and Pierce are a match destined to be together; they are so different but yet so alike. This is a first Sabrina Jeffries book for me but I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
