TRUST AND TREASON
Linden Bay Romance
Rating: 3 Cups
Elizabeth has been virtually imprisoned since the death of her parents. She dreams of marrying and having children with a man who will love her, but is forced instead to marry a frightening Scot who hates the English, does not believe in God and has buried his heart with his first wife and child.
As clan leader, Robert is responsible for the safety of all of his people. He only enters into the marriage his former father-in-law has arranged out of respect for him, and in order to safeguard his own people. He plans to take revenge on Elizabeth's uncle for the murder of his first wife and son and then go back to Scotland. He will not fall in love with his new wife, no matter how beautiful she is.
An English noblewoman and a Scottish laird are forced by circumstances to marry. They are worlds apart in upbringing and beliefs, and outside forces are conspiring to destroy them.
This is an entertaining historical romance set in fourteenth century Scotland. Elizabeth is a brave and sympathetic character, even when she lets her husband walk all over her. Robert is less sympathetic, he steps over the line into cruelty for much of the story. The supporting characters and the setting are vivid and colorful, adding a lot to the story and all is explained in the end.
