Tess is beautiful and well off and seriously dedicated to her many charities. She was engaged to a young man who died at Waterloo and is just considering finding love again.

Ian is the Duke of Rotham. He is devilishly handsome, wealthy, and powerful and has a reputation of being a rake. He is the cousin of Tess’s late fiancé and watches over her without her knowledge.

Tess and Ian have long been at odds with each other and seem to enjoy their verbal sparring. They could not be more different from each other. Tess is a reformer and devoted to others, and Ian is reputed to be a selfish rake who is unable to love anyone. Caught in a compromising position, they are forced to marry and acknowledge the attraction that they have been feeling since the first time they met. They must also bury once and for all the ghost of Tess’s late fiancé, Richard.

I loved this book from the very first pages. Tess and Ian are my very favorite type of couple, a beautiful spunky woman who has suffered and a handsome rake who finds that he is not immune to love. The plot is fast moving and involving and there is a wonderful subplot involving Tess’s friend, Fanny, and Fanny’s unlikely suitor. There is also a haunted castle, villains, and a roller coaster love story that will have you turning the pages avidly until the end. Fans of the Courtship Wars series will not be disappointed in this story and have a new series to look forward to soon.
