For seven long years, Reynaud St. Aubyn, Viscount Hope, has thought of nothing else except getting home. And when he finally makes it back to his ancestral manor, he finds it has already been occupied by someone claiming his title as well as his residence. While his body is full of scars and fever, Reynaud must fight his way back from near insanity to prove that he is the true Earl of Blanchard or lose his home for good.

Beatrice Corning knows right away that the man claiming to be the legal heir to her home is in fact Reynaud. When she was nineteen, she first spied the portrait of Viscount Hope, a vibrant man full of life and she fell half in love with him. With her Uncle Reggie claiming he will prove her fantasy man is mad, she is torn between her loyalty to her youthful dreams and the family who has taken care of her since her adolescence.

With Beatrice's help, Reynaud begins to heal from both the inside and outside scars. As their relationship grows from nurse and patient to friendship and beyond, a bond begins to build that brings them closer and closer to becoming lovers. Meanwhile, the man responsible for his original captivity is trying to find a way to silence him forever. Will Reynaud be able to figure out who was responsible for the events from seven years ago before it is too late?

With her usual sense of flair, Elizabeth Hoyt delivers once again with another sensational story full of vivid characters and spectacular events. I love how To Desire a Devil brings back all the people we have come to love within the Legend of the Four Soldiers Series while telling the story of Reynaud and Beatrice. The tale of Longsword, which is told at the beginning of each chapter, has a moral that encompasses and enriches the main story and keeps the reader feeling like they are perusing a fairytale. For me, seeing this tortured soul paired with such a gentle and yet strong heroine was the perfect match up and definitely had me riveted from the first word until the last. A flawless story from beginning to end, one that will have you happy to see the series wrapped up so completely but saddened that it has to come to an end.
