No one should see as many dead bodies as Alison Bergeron has, especially considering she is a college professor, not a homicide detective. One thing is for sure, the deceased had way more enemies than friends.
Getting a straight answer from his girlfriend is something Bobby Crawford wonders if he will ever receive. Asking her to marry him seems to have sent her into a state of avoidance he is not sure how to fix.
August is in full swing, which for Alison means an emotional roller-coaster that does not end until classes begin. Witnessing Carter Wilmott’s murder, however, completely derails her already tenuous hold. It does, however, give her something else to focus on besides Crawford’s proposal. Loving him is not the problem. Trusting herself not to screw it up is.
It seems for Alison that book smarts are in no way indicative of a high level of common sense. In my opinion, this woman needs a good therapist much, much more than she needs another martini. The way she noses around in strangers' lives, it is no wonder she comes out a little worse for wear. Although this story is well written, it is Alison who I feel is in desperate need of a personality makeover.
