Seventeen years ago Tara left the town of Lucky Harbor with a broken heart from many different facets. Now that she is back, one of the reasons for her heartache keeps popping up wherever she is.
Ford knows that Tara was hurting when they were teenagers, but he had some major issues of his own to face. Now that she is back in town, he is hoping they can relive their more passionate days without the conflicting emotions a typical teenager would feel.
Just as Tara is trying to figure out what her role is in Lucky Harbor and how quickly she can leave, her ex-husband Logan shows up, adding more complications to her life. Now Logan and Ford have declared all-out war against each other as they try to one up each other which then has the citizens of Lucky Harbor taking sides in a modern 21st century way. As if her life is not complicated enough, another shocking surprise shows up from Tara’s past. Now she will not only have to deal with this new twist, but she has to figure out how to stop the contest going on between her ex-husband and current lover before someone gets hurt…oops, too late.
Ms. Shalvis gives us a complex story that deals with the complications of teenage love, a second chance at love, a woman determined to figure out who she is, a man who wants his wife back, and a man who is determined to show Tara that he is all she needs. The Sweetest Thing is a novel full of characters that keep looking back while struggling to live in the present. The emotional upheavals that each character feels throughout the book gives us the chance to picture Lucky Harbor as a real town with characters that have heart, soul, and very complicated lives. If you are looking for a novel that is all fluff, then this is definitely not the novel for you. But if you are looking for a book that will pull heartstrings, have you laughing, and keep you trying to unknot the twists and turns of a good romance, then I suggest you pick up The Sweetest Thing by Ms. Shalvis.
