Emma Winberry is a sixty-something woman with unbounded energy and a devotion to the opera and the Midwest Opera House, in particular.
Nate Sandler is Emma’s protective significant other. He is ever patient and supportive of Emma in her quest for the truth.
Is the Midwest Opera House haunted? Recent events make it appear so, and Emma’s research turns up the possibility that the building could have been a stop of the Underground Railroad. Emma’s uncovering of a secret room with hidden documents leads to the discovery that someone is stealing historic artifacts. The group’s historian is attacked, and Emma’s search for the perpetrator becomes more crucial.
This second installment of the Emma Winberry mysteries is better than the first. Not only has Emma become more real to me, the mystery is also very well crafted. The hint of the paranormal adds a bit of intrigue to an already compelling mystery. Emma and Nate have an interesting time solving this mystery, and the setting of an historic opera house makes for an intriguing pairing of mysteries in the past and present. This series just keeps getting better and better!
