As much death and destruction as Doc Wellburn has seen it still pains him when someone so young and vital is hurt so badly.
Thinking his life is pretty much over after being trampled by a herd of cattle, Sonny Houston will take any help he can get.
Replacing Sonny's crushed limbs with steam powered machines turns out much better than Doc could have hoped, although others see things very differently. Sonny has the power and speed far beyond any mere man, which some worry will bring the wrath of God down on their heads.
This story is an interesting look at what can happen when technology gets ahead of humanity. The people here are simply hard working and God fearing folk, not quite ready to embrace Doc's inventions. Seeing how Sonny changes in such a short amount of time drives home that feeling even more. If you enjoy steampunk and really like old-time western this will be nice little addition to your reading.
