THE SIAMESE SILVER PENDANT
CLAUDETTE L. KIELY
Rating: 4 Cups
While on summer leave from her first year at college, Clarisse Lapointe sees two sailors standing on the side of the road. Feeling bold and daring, she drives up with her best friend Melinda in the passenger seat and asks the men if they would like help.
Guy Lakeland is on weekend leave from his ship, the U.S.S. Bamforth, with his good friend Walt when a car stops and asks him if he needs help. Seeing the two pretty girls sitting in the front seats, he and his friend quickly get in and they are taken to a local favorite restaurant to eat.
Soon Guy and Clarisse find themselves falling in love as the weeks go by. When their love cannot be contained any longer, they soon take their relationship to the next level. Unexpectedly, Clarisse learns a shocking secret about Guy, one that will change her life and their relationship forever.
Ms. Kiely takes the reader back to the 1950's when a full tank of gas cost four dollars and People Watching and Bridge Dancing were fun ways to entertain the local teenagers. The Siamese Silver Pendant tells the story of Clarisse from an early age and into her fifties. The story unravels at a slow and even tempo that makes this a nice read. You will see Clarisse struggle as a woman in a man's workforce and beyond. This is a pleasant story full of life lessons and realistic events; one that will have the reader remembering a different life than what we live today.
