THE SHARPSHOOTER’S SECRET SON
Rating: 4 Cups
For all of the search and rescue operations that Deke Cunningham has undertaken, none have shaken him more than this one. This time it is personal, and despite all of his training, he is scared to death.
Two years of being divorced has not dampened the love that Mindy has for her ex-husband. Sex has never been the issue, but trust was, and he could never let down his guard enough to truly let her in.
This situation is bringing home the exact reason why Deke pushed away the only good thing that ever came into his life. To love is to be vulnerable, and with the men he comes up against, any vulnerability is deadly. Mindy is his heart and soul, and when she becomes his next rescue Deke is struck with fear unlike anything he has ever known. Mindy is terrified of her captors, but when Deke is tossed into the dark with her, she finally has to divulge a secret that scares her more than any gun toting terrorist.
Time and again this story builds you up, and then wipes you out. There are so many nerve-wracking moments; it is non-stop tension from beginning to end. My only issue is that Mindy does not take a more active part in the storyline. Despite her situation; she is apparently young and healthy, not bedridden. However, I do love how deep and brooding Deke is, and how Mindy never lets him forget what kind of man lies beneath that rough exterior.
