Kat Griffiths was born and raised in South River, New Jersey, where the only fun to be had was shopping. Even after she married, she continued to shop. Now, she is beginning to see signs of her marriage being in trouble. Is her husband – Griff - of twenty years having an affair with his research assistant? Is he planning on leaving her as soon as their daughter Laura leaves for college? Kat needs to get her financial affairs in order, just in case.
Liam Novak proposed to Kat twenty years ago and she turned him down. He comes from a wealthy family and could have given Kat the world. Now, he is divorced and back in town. Having never gotten over her, he is ready to hire Kat to help him re-decorate the house he bought.
Kat’s housekeeper suggests joining The Penny Pinchers Club. This is a group of people who support one another by finding ways to save money. Living a luxurious lifestyle in this economy is not an option. Kat puts up a fight until she finds e-mails from Griff’s assistant which sound as if he is planning on leaving Kat. Scared, Kat turns to The Penny Pinchers for help. Money may not be the only thing Kat will save by joining up with this group. She may save herself when it is all said and done.
What a lively bunch of characters! The Penny Pinchers had me laughing out loud throughout this story. From the way they criticized Kat and her spending habits to the way they raided her and Griff’s financial information, this cast is downright funny. Sarah Strohmeyer gives some very helpful financial advice, but by mingling it with humor, she does not make it a hard pill to swallow. This is a fantastic read whether you are looking for advice or just a spot of sunshine to help push the dark clouds away.
