Jamie goes to Bali, wanting to check out some possible excursions to add to her company’s list of adventure tours. She lives for her job as an adventure tour guide and all of the adrenaline rush activities it includes. What she never expects are the bombs that rock the country of Bali and change her life forever.
Gabe escapes his past by burying himself in the local life of Bali and his job as a schoolteacher. When he is sucked into the bombings, he works beside an amazing woman who is determined to save as many as she can. His life is inexplicably changed by her bravery, and forever altered when she leaves him without a word to return to her life in America.
Now Jamie is back in Bali for the one-year anniversary of the bombings. She must face the emotional turmoil and scars, both physical and mental. More than that, she feels as though she must find the man who saved not just her body, but also her heart.
This is the story of two people who are thrown together during tragedy and discover a kindred spirit that saves them in spite of it all. At times, the action is intense and graphic, but Ms. Sussman handles the bombing and subsequent carnage with sensitivity and care. The format is fresh and engaging, and the characters are absolutely flawed and more loveable for it.
