Max Fitzroy is well known as the Highwayman. For the last 250 years he has been deprived of food, sleep and a number of other things because of a demon that is shadowing him.
Aby is a familiar, and the Highwayman is her enemy. When the handsome demon slayer comes to her for help, there is only one thing she can do and that is to say no.
Max is intrigued when he sees the lovely lady in green, better yet; when he learns she is a familiar who can help remove this demon from him. Unfortunately, she refuses to offer any assistance. Max promises to keep her safe. Severo, her good friend, who is a werewolf, steps in when he feels that Aby is being threatened. He informs Aby that Max is the Highwayman and once he is finished with any familiar, he kills them. Aby cannot trust Max, no matter how badly he insists otherwise. Will Aby finally give into his pleas and help Max, while discovering something she has never felt, or will he end up destroying her?
I really wish that Michele Hauf could sketch Max and deliver him directly to my door. The Highwayman is sexy as all get out. He has charisma that oozes off him and leaps to the reader. I think he and Aby are a complete match. Ms. Hauf captivates the audience with a sexy hunk. She packs some punch into this story that certainly kept this reader spellbound throughout. The story is loaded in great action and irresistible passion. I have to admit I was a little worried about the cauldron scene and how the ending would eventually turn out, but I was completely satisfied with this breathtaking tale. I am so anxious to read the next book in the series.
