As a psychologist for the FBI, Claire Lamont has had more than her fair share of ambivalent and uncooperative patients. FBI agents usually balk at pouring out all of their fears and emotions, and Claire is coming to realize that maybe she cannot handle the job any longer.
Losing his best friend and mentor only two weeks ago was hard enough, but now Agent Brent Young has been appointed as a bodyguard for the lovely Claire Lamont. Guarding her body is a pleasure, but if she has any intention of playing shrink with him, Brent will make it very clear very quickly to butt out.
This is the first time Claire has ever been the target of a killer, but she is completely confident in Brent’s ability to keep her safe, at least physically. The FBI is tracking down one of its own, and the stakes are getting higher with each passing moment. Brent and Claire are not only trying to help apprehend a rogue FBI agent, but are also fighting an attraction for each other that neither is willing to admit. They both swear that they cannot be right for each other, but the physical and emotional bonds are too powerful and intense to ignore for long.
This story is a heart-thumping race to the finish, and its characters fit their roles perfectly. Claire and Brent are consummate professionals, but you can really feel the heat build the longer they try to deny their feelings. One hair-raising event after another keeps you riveted, but it is the mystery surrounding the killer that will have you guessing. Not everything adds up to neat little package, but the end game is well worth the wait.
