THE EARL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
Regency Urban Fantasy
Rating: 3 Cups
Maeve Llywd is a powerful witch and one of the Calend. She is the daughter of a notorious actress and is constantly forced to prove to herself and everyone else that she is not like her mother despite the physical resemblance.
Constantine Armitage is an aristocrat, though he feels unworthy. He blames himself for the death of his cousin and uncle and would like to share their fate. He feels he should have died, not them.
Maeve has to pay a steep price for a favor from her goddess: her virginity. This task has entangled her life with that of Constantine Armitage, Earl of Evengate. She interests him and makes him think of something other than his next drink while he represents the reason she can never have what she has always wanted. Together they must beat Valentine Gallows to the four symbols that will keep England from falling into darkness.
The premise of this story was a bit difficult to believe in at first, but I was soon swept up in Con and Maeve's quest to save England. Their chemistry is explosive, but their relationship is never easy, especially after Con inexplicably betroths himself to Maeve's fellow coven member and friend, Evie. The plot is exciting with some extremely vivid descriptions and erotic love scenes. Ms. Wilde has a wonderful way of painting a picture with words, and I look forward to reading more of her work.
