THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING
JAMES PATTERSON AND RICHARD DILALLO
Little, Brown and Company
Rating: 4 Cups
With so much to be thankful for Gaby Summerhill can only feel awed by the men who have proposed marriage to her. Losing her husband three years ago was a terrible tragedy, but Gaby’s support system is the best in the world, and she is ready to be loved again.
Not a day goes by that Tom, Jacob, and Marty will miss a day at the farm with Gaby. They are the best of friends and come together every morning to feed the less privileged in Gaby’s barn, but who will win her hand is still a mystery.
Not one soul knows who Gaby has chosen as her groom, not even her best friend Stacey Lee, and no one will until Christmas day, her wedding day. The men have accepted her strange request to keep her decision a surprise, and yet all are hopeful they are the one chosen. Gaby wants her whole family front and center for the festivities, and it looks like she may just get her wish. Her children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, and students anxiously anticipate learning who the groom will be, and Gaby prays her decision does not endanger years of friendship.
I love that Gaby’s family is every bit as warped as they come, and it makes this story feel like a real homecoming. The only outrageousness, in my opinion, is that Tom, Marty, and Jacob agree to be kept in the dark until the wedding day. This is a fabulous excursion into the heart of a family that struggles with everyday issues, and the woman who binds them all together. Gaby would be an amazing woman to know, and her courage, energy, and unfailing faith in her friends and family radiates throughout every word and action.
