Kendall Aims is nervously awaiting the announcement for who has won an award that may just change her luck in the writing world. While the thought of not winning the award distresses her, the conversation that breaks her heart has her running. She jumps on a plane back to her home without notifying her three best friends of what has happened.
Mallory St. James knows that her three friends see her as a shining star in the cutthroat business of writing. Behind closed doors though, her every word has been a struggle lately. Her home life is falling apart and her marriage to Chris seems to have disintegrated into nothing more than ships passing in the night.
After confronting her husband about his extra-curricular activities, Kendall heads for the mountains and hopes to find solace as she wallows in self-pity. But along with Tanya Mason and Faye Truett, Mallory refuses to allow Kendall to destroy her soul along with her dwindling marriage and writing career. Suddenly a plan comes along that has them working together on Kendall’s last book for her present publishing company, and all four have lives that are poured into the new novel, with the understanding that this work is supposedly just "fiction." But what happens when the last ditch effort is an overnight sensation that brings out secrets that some of the women do not want told, including some that may destroy not only their friendship, but their marriages as well?
Ms. Wax has a way of telling a story that keeps the reader interested throughout the novel and the recurring question of "what happens next?" Each character's struggle with secrets and their own life is so compelling that I felt each heartbreak and success told throughout the novel. The Accidental Bestseller is the type of book that will have you laughing, crying, and shouting right along with each woman as she tells her life story within the pages of this vivid and gripping novel. I love how Mallory, Faye, and Tanya stand up for Kendall, even when they know it could come at such high cost to themselves. I was saddened at how far apart they were at one point within the tale. This beautifully told story is a must read for anyone who loves to read about four women struggling to find their place in a world that is constantly changing, even as their close friendship overcomes obstacles that is life altering.
