Phoebe O’Dunn is the quintessential librarian and happy to be so. Running the Knights Bridge Public Library in small town USA is rewarding, if not exciting. When Phoebe discovers a cache of vintage items secreted away in an upstairs room, she immediately falls in love with a gown fit for a princess. On a whim, Phoebe dons the dress and attends a masquerade in Boston.
Noah Kendrick has become wary of women and tired of their pandering to his fortune. When he dresses as a pirate and dances with a princess at a Boston masquerade, he is enchanted. Unfortunately, his princess disappears like Cinderella at midnight, without leaving even a shoe to help him discover her identity. Following his instincts, Noah decides to stay in Knights Bridge awhile longer to search her out.
Phoebe never asked for adventure, but it seems to have found her. As she is drawn into an intrigue involving her fantasy pirate, she finds herself partnering with Noah to solve the mystery. Phoebe did not know what to expect from a wealthy man, but Noah is far more than she expected. Before they discover the truth, both will find more than they ever bargained for.
Readers will enjoy this intriguing plot and its witty characters. However, the pace is sometimes a little on the slow side. I hope to see more novels set in Knights Bridge, though. It seems like the sort of small town where fairy tale endings happen every day.
