Lady Valerie Monroe is a reckless spirit in a time when it is not fashionable amongst the ton of England society to be anything but empty-headed and un-opinionated. Sent to America by her father the Earl, Valerie attempts to mend her ways.
Viscount Steven Ashford is a man of many identities. As a man who is trying to bring certain criminals to justice, his identities are a necessity. However, his Jesuit priest disguise may just be his undoing.
Valerie is on her way back to England when the boat she is on is attacked by pirates. Her adventurous spirit leads her into a tidal wave of romantic feelings for a man she believes is a priest. Steven is trying to stop some men who are selling slaves. Falling in love with Valerie is not an option. Valerie returns to her life, longing for the man behind the priest’s robes. A magical holiday season uncovers a mystery and unearths a few secrets.
I am always one who enjoys a heroine like Valerie. She is a headstrong woman when it is not proper to be so. Then, when you add in Steven, a man who appreciates a lady like Valerie, it only heightens the pleasure of reading this tale. The author has created a cast of characters who sweep the reader deep into the story. So much so, that the reader only realizes they have reached the end of the book when they turn the final page. From the danger and adventure to the sensuality and romance, Ms. Ashe has definitely gained a new fan in this reviewer.
