Jessica and her mother live a very simple life, but their lives are about to change, on Friday the 13th no less. Jessica’s mother, Lillian, has just received a letter from a lawyer in Louisiana. She has inherited an old plantation home and some money from an aunt she did not really like.
They make their way cross country from Washington to Louisiana to start a new life. But the life Lillian hopes will happen is uncertain when Jessica starts acting strangely shortly after getting there.
The town and home they find are stranger than anything they have ever seen, like it is all stuck in time. And with superstitions about and strange happenings, things become complicated and lives are at stake. Just what is real, what is a superstition, and who is to be trusted?
A great suspense-filled read. I enjoyed the world that Ms. Wright has created with strange characters that make the story flow along while you cannot wait to see what oddity is next. I now stop to wonder if some of the superstitions you hear, both in and out of this story, are real or just hogwash. I suppose it is all in your own beliefs; but they do make for a great read!
