Agent Sylvie King felt sorry for her best friend Maggie’s ex-lover Kalen Price. It was obvious to all that Kalen fancied himself in love with Maggie. However, Maggie had used him to test the magical bond with her fiancé. So, because she felt sorry for him, and because she thought he was hot, Sylvie gave him a consolation quickie in the elevator.
Mercenary Kalen Price really thought he was in love in Maggie, until Maggie’s partner and fellow agent gave him the surprise of his life in an elevator. Honorable and honest to a fault, Kalen realizes he was wrong about his feelings for Maggie and quickly turns his attention and interest to Sylvie.
Both agents, and often working on opposite sides, Kalen and Sylvie get more than they bargained for when they decide they want more of what they discovered in the elevator. When during sex their own magical bond clicks into place, they find they have a choice to make, either honor the bond or move on.
Ms Damschroder penned a very entertaining tale with this story. Her characters are believable, and the emotional tension was just tight enough to keep me turning pages. In a world that is only slightly different from ours, in that some people are mages and born with an affinity for a particular element, her world building was subtle but strong. It was definitely enough to keep me interested throughout the book. A very well written read that I highly recommend!
