Heather Gibson is currently in dire straits. A broken down car and a dead cell phone leave her stranded at night at the Lonesome Steer Honky Tonk, locked as she is in a custody battle with a wealthy ex-husband who will use any excuse to take her children. No, she definitely does not need trouble to give him more ammunition!
Lance Dugan, a country singing sensation, is back in town to celebrate his grandfather’s birthday and to take care of an Heather’s unfinished business. He wants to apologize for everything he has done ten years before.
Fate brings them face-to-face at the most inconvenient time, when Heather has the most to lose. Lance may be the best thing that ever happened to her, but she may lose everything because of him, including her heart. And what about the deep-buried secret she has kept for ten years, which could drive them apart forever?
I have just finished this book and I am still weepy. It is a beautifully written story. Ms. Robinson makes these characters, their pain, happiness, confusion come alive. I feel with them and for them. They make me laugh and most of all–cry. I love them, especially Lance who fits the role of what I imagine a true cowboy gentleman would be like. The story is all about doing the right thing or what feels right because it is never too late. Highly recommended.
