Kate Grayhawk Pendleton is the daughter of a Federal Judge and the granddaughter of wealthy ranchers. She has not been lucky in love and was married to an unfaithful traitor. She is beautiful and devoted to her twin sons. She has also recently recovered from a four month coma.

Wyatt Shaw is the illegitimate son of mob boss, Dante D’Amato, and a self made billionaire. One night nine years ago changed his life.

Nine years ago, Kate caught her husband with another woman. In retaliation, she picked up a man in a bar and got pregnant. With her husband missing, she has finally reconnected with the man she fell in love with when she was nineteen. Her interfering mother-in-law has alerted Wyatt to the paternity of the twins and he is back in her life. Jack McKinley’s relationship with Kate is threatened by the fact that his almost ex-wife is pregnant and he is the father. Aside from that, they are all in danger from both Wyatt’s father and Kate’s now desperate husband.

The plot of this book can be quite complicated and has quite a few story lines and points of view. The characters are very sympathetic, especially Kate who has really gotten the fuzzy end of the lollipop for a long time. The plot is full of twists and turns and a bit of melodrama, but the suspense is what kept me hooked. This story is very hard to put down and as it is part of a series, there are more Bitter Creek stories for us to read.
