SEASON FOR SURRENDER
2 October 2012
Regency Holiday Romance
Rating: 4 Cups
Alexander Edgeware, Lord Xavier, never walks away from a bet. Not even when it involves inviting a proper young lady to his notoriously scandalous holiday house party. The stakes are high, and Alex’s reputation is on the line. So why does he find himself so distracted by a woman who is not quite the proper bluestocking she first seemed to be?
Miss Louisa Oliver knows she is headed straight for spinsterhood. Not many gentlemen will look twice at a wallflower that would rather read than play the coquette. When she is offered the chance to attend Lord Xavier’s holiday gathering, Louisa eagerly accepts. Perhaps she will have one last chance at adventure before settling down on the shelf.
Louisa simply cannot understand her host. At times, he is the cool, detached Lord Xavier, a man who treats sarcasm like an art form. Other times, he is Alex, a man who shares her love of books and makes her body burn with excitement. As the stakes grow higher, Louisa realizes that her reputation and her happiness rest on Alex’s ability to overcome the expectations of everyone else in the game.
Season of Surrender is filled with a delightful array of Regency era holiday traditions. Alex and Louisa are the perfect blend of wit and independent thinking. Readers may be left to wonder if the villain should have gotten just a little more of a comeuppance in the end. Regardless, this story is sure to put anyone in a festive mood.
