Sophy Noirot’s brilliant blue eyes hide a keen mind that sees straight to the core of everyone she meets. She and her sisters are the trendiest dressmakers in all of London, and Sophy’s job is to keep them ten steps ahead of the competition. Using her talent for disguise, Sophy eases in and out of society’s events. She gathers tidbits of intrigue for the scandal sheets and spins her stories to the advantage of the Noirot sisters and their shop.
Lord Harry Longmore is the antithesis of everything an English aristocrat should be. His personal motto is brawl first and think later. It is a strategy he also employs when seducing women, until Sophy Noirot comes along. Nothing about the French dressmaker is what it seems and it is driving him mad with desire.
When a fortune hunter targets Longmore’s sister, Clara, Harry’s brutish way of solving problems is of no use. It will take all of Sophy’s cunning to get rid of the unwanted suitor while keeping Clara’s reputation intact. What Sophy never counted on was what an inexplicably perfect team she and Longmore make together. Not only does he willingly follow her lead, he presents a most disconcerting and sexy diversion.
Ms. Chase pens a novel with a fresh story, irresistibly witty dialog, and main characters that are loveably flawed. Never before has any hero managed to declare himself a non-thinker who will follow a woman’s lead and yet hang onto his undeniably alpha appeal. Harry and Sophy are quite the perfect pair. I recommend this book to anyone who likes their historical protagonists spiced with a good dose of modern pragmatism and innovation.
