Kate Summers is like any other mom. She worries about her teenage son, Jon, who is a freshman in high school. Kate, however, has been keeping a secret for the last fifteen years. Jon is not her biological son, though he and the world believe the lie. Someone else knows the truth, and Kate’s secret is about to be revealed.

Daegan O’Rourke is the illegitimate son of Frank Sullivan, a wealthy married man, and Mary Ellen O’Rourke, a worker in one of the Sullivan factories. One night after taking all he could, Daegan left home without a backward glance.

Until one day, his cousin, Bibi, arrives to reveal a secret she has been hiding from him for the last fifteen years. An incestuous affair with his cousin resulted in Daegan becoming a father. The child was taken away and given up for a very secretive adoption. Kate Summers happened to be in the office preparing her resignation when the lawyer in charge offered her a chance she thought she had lost. For years, Kate has told Jon and everyone else he is her son. Now, fifteen years later, Robert Sullivan – Bibi’s father - is having a change of heart and wants Jon brought back to the Sullivan family. Someone, however, does not agree with this decision and wants Jon to disappear…for good.

This book was previously released under the title of Wishes. With the new title come extra scenes filled with suspense and intrigue, along with a fair sprinkling of romance. The author takes the reader deep into the lives of Kate Summers, her son, Jon, and Daegan O’Rourke. The twists and turns in each of their lives give the reader a glimpse into what makes each character tick. So often, the mystery is obvious from the start, but I have to admit, I sat scratching my head until the very end. Ms. Jackson shows a blatant talent for spinning a tale to keep a reader sitting on the edge of their seat, waiting for the next shoe to drop.
