Elizabeth Lane has made something of herself; she came from a relatively poor family with an alcoholic father to now a Hollywood actress. Ten years prior when she was just getting into the business, she let a love go. Now he is back in her life and she is afraid of losing him again.
Richard Lovinggood was just seventeen when Elizabeth broke off their relationship. He has tried to forget her, but no one can even compare. He works for the FBI and loves his job, but his powerful father, the Senator, is making plans for Richard to become the President; a world where Elizabeth just might not fit.
Richard and Elizabeth reconnect and act impulsively on their feelings and secretly marry. But if they think a relationship together will be easy, their feelings change when a kidnapping and a host of other problems appear on the horizon.
I was excited by reading the blurb of this story; anticipating an exciting romance with some suspense in the mix. However, I must say although I enjoyed the plot, I found myself not liking the characters; I just could not connect with their behavior and attitudes in many situations. As my recommendation, I would say make the choice of whether to read Return Engagement yourself as I have read other works by Ms. Cantrell and enjoyed them, but this one was just okay for this reviewer.
