Susannah is an almost divorced mother of two. Her husband is divorcing her for another woman, and she has been forced to sell her home as it was her entire settlement. Her new home has potential but needs work.
Chico is Susannah’s neighbor and the owner of a successful company. He has secrets in his past he is afraid to share, even as his attraction to Susannah grows.
After a painful divorce, Susannah and her two children start their lives over again in a rundown house rumored to be haunted. The rumor is true, and in addition to the spirits, Susannah has to deal with a newly rebellious daughter and her attraction to a handsome and mysterious neighbor, not to mention additional complications from her soon to be ex husband.
I really enjoyed this ghost story. The plot has some interesting twists and turns and the characters are realistic and memorable. The author gives a realistic view of divorce due to a man’s midlife crisis, and Susannah does a great job of dealing with her problems. The daughter Katie is a bit hard to take at times, but her rebellion is understandable if misguided. I really liked Chico, the neighbor Leroy August, and the two spirits who haunt the house. This story is romantic and not too scary making it a Halloween must-read for just about anyone.
