Lady Mara is Irish and beautiful. She finds comfort on the banks of the River Shannon. She lost her mother at an early age.
Daegen Raeliksen is the son of a Nordic chieftain. He has long admired Mara and frequently watches her when she is at her secret place.
Tenth century Ireland is a land of turmoil. The native Irish and the Viking invaders are constantly at odds. An alliance between the two warring groups is unlikely. Mara and Daegen have much to overcome for a successful union. Their cultures and customs are so very different.
This is a bit of a Romeo and Juliet type of story set in tenth century Ireland. The author has done an excellent job of bringing the past back to life with her vivid characters. I do not know much about this era, but the historical detail is very impressive. The story itself is very involving, with vivid characters and an exciting plot. Her written descriptions are particularly well done and the reader will have no problem picturing settings and characters.
