Rachel Brand lost her husband Ezra almost a year ago in a tragic accident. Since then, the Amish community has banded together to help her.
Gideon Zook was Ezra’s best friend and survived the accident while his friend perished. He wants to talk to Rachel but each time he tries to talk to her, Rachel pushes him away.
Ezra wanted a greenhouse built for his wife and bought the supplies before he died. Gideon convinces Rachel that he can build it for her and she can sell her plants and herbs. But Rachel’s brother-in-law does not want her to earn money and thinks she should allow a man to be the head of her household. Can Rachel convince everyone that she does know what is best for her and her family or is it just wishful thinking?
Ms. Perry shows us an intriguing look into the Amish community. We get an in depth understanding of their beliefs, actions, and way of life. I enjoyed seeing Rachel go from a woman who is not used to being a strong woman standing on her own, to someone who is independent and able to take care of her family. I thought Gideon’s friendship and feelings for Rachel showed strength that we would only be lucky enough to have. This was a really good book and I am glad I got to read it.
