A WEEK TO BE WICKED
Spindle Cove, Book 2
Mass Market Paperback
Rating: 4 Cups
Minerva Highwood is the plainest and the second of three sisters. She is more interested in rocks than balls and has accepted the fact that she might always remain a spinster.
Colin, Viscount Payne, is on hiatus from his usual rakehell ways. He is penniless until his birthday or until he marries.
Spindle Cove is a resort town with a number of attractions for single ladies of good family. Viscount Payne is currently one of those attractions. The unrepentant rake is waiting to inherit and the ladies of the Cove all have their eye on him. However, he is only interested if they are widows of flexible morals. Minerva needs to get to Edinburgh to present a paper on her geological findings and is in need of Colin’s help to get there. Colin is bored and finds Minerva’s plans intriguing, but not as intriguing as the lady herself.
This is an entertaining historical romance with an interesting setting. Spindle Cove is quite full of unusual ladies of all sorts, though there seems to be a distinct shortage of men. Colin is a flawed hero with a tragedy in his past, which makes him infinitely more attractive than the usual well-adjusted alpha male. Minerva may not be the beauty of the family, but her mother’s disdain and borderline verbal abuse make her withdraw into herself. She only shows self-confidence when she discusses geology. I loved how Colin got her to come out of her shell and their adventures kept me turning pages until the very end.
