Lady Madeline Sinclair is a young woman of good family but reduced circumstances. She is living with her aunt and beautiful cousin in London. She feels a bit overshadowed by the beautiful Helena.
Lord Colin is a handsome and wealthy duke. He is, allegedly, a heartbreaker and a bit of a rake.
Madeline made a promise to her dying father that she would find the family’s French Blue Diamond in the cellar of their old home in London and restore the family’s fortune. The gem is supposedly cursed, but worth a large fortune. Unfortunately, the Lord Colin, Duke of Douglas, is the current owner of the house and searching the cellar will be very difficult with him living there. Madeline is not the only one aware of the diamond, and she also attracts the attention of a very dangerous man.
This author has done a great job of combining a very good Regency romance with an exciting and suspenseful mystery. The characters are well drawn and realistic with period, but easy to follow, dialogue. The plot is exciting and the author does a great job of building the suspense. I am a big fan of the Regency genre, and the author is very good at describing the settings and people of the era and making the reader feel as if she is right there with the main characters. I loved Madeline’s spunk and initiative and her masterful duke is her perfect counterpart.
