PLAYING THE FIELD
SOPHIE OAK & CHLOE LANG
Erotic Romance; Contemporary; Ménage a Trois/Quatre
Rating: 5 Cups
Tess Proffit thought her life would be perfect as her self-help novel was going to be published at the same time as she was getting ready to be married. Until disaster struck and suddenly Tess knew her life was anything but perfect.
Curt Goff is the quarterback for his team. When his BDSM tendencies become newsworthy, he puts aside his desires for a more tepid relationship.
Mike Cabrerra is the kicker for the San Antonio Bandits and uses seduction to get what he wants. Unfortunately for him, it does not seem to be working on Tess.
Marcus Grant is the tight end. He shares women with his best friend, wide receiver Randy Hall.
Kevin Best, the fullback for the team, seems to be really sweet until he is in the same room as all the other guys. Then he turns into a complete jerk.
Though all five guys play for the same team, it does not show very well as each player tries to one-up the other. In a last ditch effort to bring them together, Frank Boyle, the team owner, hires Tess to run some team building exercises on them. None of them expect it to work and they certainly do not expect that they would all find Tess so attractive that they could not keep their hands to themselves. What starts off as a simple joke soon becomes much more, and ends up breaking Tess’ heart. Now, the five guys who were not willing to work as a team for millions of dollars must come together to fight for the woman they have come to care for.
Ms. Oak and Ms. Lang certainly scored a touchdown with this novel. I thought the way the men were described gave them individuality and helped keep this spicy read going from the first page. Playing the Field not only has extremely sultry scenes, it has a plotline that is justifiable which you do not always get when reading erotica. The emotional boundaries that this story entailed gave me a feeling as if I could personally relate to each character. This is one smoking hot book that I perused with great relish.
