Rocky Pelligrino is trying to decide whether or not to return to her job and home on the mainland. The psychologist turned dogcatcher has become comfortable with the hum of Peaks Island life. She has been looking at local real estate, and there is her budding romance with archery instructor, Hill, to consider. The rescued Labrador, Cooper, is her constant companion and a well-known island favorite.
A year has passed since the death of Rocky’s husband, Bob, and she feels as though her life is finally settling back in sync. When an angry teen, Natalie, appears at her doorstep claiming to be her late husband’s illegitimate child, Rocky realizes her grief has not even begun to pass.
Leading with her heart and not her brain, Rocky will risk everything to find the truth. Her journey will challenge everything she knows and believes. It will touch the lives of her new friends and loved ones, and those she has left behind. At the heart of her search, Rocky will discover the root of what makes us move forward in life and in love. And pacing by her side at every step is the wise black dog that has insinuated into the very fiber of her being.
Picture This is the anticipated sequel to Ms. Sheehan’s Lost & Found. It can be read as a standalone, if the reader is willing to be patient in regards to drawing connections between the characters. Ms. Sheehan’s descriptive language will place readers deep within every scene. Her profound characterization allows a full understanding, without divulging too much. Perhaps, my only complaint is that, while Rocky’s engrossing tale escalates to a page turning climax, the relationship with Hill fizzles away to barely an afterthought in the second two thirds of the story. Regardless, Picture This is a must have for the discerning reader’s nightstand.
