Historical Romantic Suspense
Rating: 5 Cups
Miss Amity Doncaster has seen much while trotting the globe in search of material for her travel essays. She can even handle the discovery of a desperately injured man in a back alley on the island of St. Clare. Gathering her wits, Amity keeps the handsome stranger from bleeding to death.
Benedict Stanbridge is an engineer, not a spy, which might account for his rotten luck in being shot. From the beginning, he is intrigued by Amity’s combination of fearlessness and practicality. He is determined to find her again once his short stint as a British agent is over and he can return to London.
The idle tongues of London society speculate so wildly about Amity and Benedict’s association that a serial killer known as the Bridegroom chooses Amity as his next target. The psychopath hunts down those women who fail to live up to society’s rules. The only thing for Amity and Benedict to do now is to pretend an engagement and set a trap to catch a killer, if the passion underlying their fake relationship does not burn them first.
This fast-paced story is full of the drama and intrigue I love to see in a good historical suspense. The dialogue is witty and fun, and the action is balanced with a good healthy dose of romance. Readers will enjoy this engrossing murder mystery solved with fashion sense and wicked accessories.
