ONE ENCHANTED EVENING
Mass Market Paperback
Time Travel Romance
Rating: 5 Cups
Pippa Alexander is a costume designer with a love of things medieval. She has four sisters three of whom she is very close to and one who uses her as a personal maid when she can. She has just been given the opportunity of a lifetime if she can keep her sister out of it.
Montgomery de Piaget is the youngest son of an earl and a member of a family accustomed to “paranormal oddities.” He has a brother-in-law and sister-in-law from the future. He is the not-so-proud owner of Sedgewick, a dilapidated castle full of holes and cousins who would like him dead. He is also very charming and handsome.
Pippa is thrilled to be designing fairy costumes for an upscale birthday party at her sister Tess' castle in England, but that enthusiasm is somewhat dimmed by the presence of her inappropriately named sister Cinderella. Cindi has decided that she is a dress designer also and is determined to impress the wealthy patron that Pippa is supposed to see. Things get a bit physical and both women end up in the moat eight hundred years in the past. Montgomery feels obligated to protect the two women some think are from Faery, and soon finds himself falling in love with Pippa. Unfortunately her home is in the future.
This is an inventive story that I did not put down until the very last page. Montgomery and Pippa are perfectly suited to each other. They are both responsible and honorable people despite their crazy relatives. Cindi is every bad cliché of a beauty queen and has no redeeming qualities at all, she has a lot in common with Montgomery's cousins. The other siblings on both sides are pretty wonderful and a lot of fun. The author does a fantastic job of describing both eras and I laughed out loud at the hero's very male yearning to drive the sports car and his appetite for modern food; some things never change. Fans of Ms. Kurland's work will be happy to get reacquainted with their favorite characters from the past, but newbies will not have any problem following the story. This author is my very favorite in the time travel genre.
