Clarisse Lapointe never married the man she fell in love with. After discovering she was pregnant, she also learned he was already married, so she kept silent about the pregnancy.
David McGuire is very attentive to Clarisse’s care. He understands her crippling condition in the wheelchair. She has captured, not only his spirit, but his mind, body, and heart.
Clarisse was never able to be with her first love. Her religion did not allow her to marry a divorced man. Her son, Guy, never knew his father the way a man and son bond, but he was always there for her. Guy is aware that his late father’s paintings are selling well, which pleases his mother but more importantly is the fact David loves his mother. Guy believes his mother should find the happiness she has missed. David wants to marry Clarisse. She has been independent most her life, doing her writing, but Guy believes his mother really should be with David. Will Clarisse give in to David and accept his proposal or will her heart always been with the one who got away?
Odyssey of Love tells a loving story about a love that holds firm. I enjoyed some of the mature characters displayed throughout the story. I could understand Guy and his desire to not have known his father like some children. David is a wonderful character and his love for Clarisse is extremely deep enough that the reader can sense how much he really cares. Claudette Kiely fashions compassionate characters, an everlasting love and a story that brings back memories of people who did not seem to be caught up in this fast web that many people live. Her storytelling has a way of leaving a piece of nostalgia with the reader.
