NOWHERE TO HIDE

Alexis Maguire has had to be one-step ahead of The Trust for most of her life. A thief turned waitress, Alex trusts few people. When Simon, a friend, asks her to take charge of a child whom The Trust is after, she agrees. When he tells her to go to his ex-partner Detective Dan Greywolf for protection, she balks. Not wanting to rekindle her attraction to the handsome detective she met a year previous, she does everything she can to shake him loose.
When Simon calls Dan and tells him he is his only hope, Dan’s first response is a negative. However, when Simon mentions it has to do with keeping Alex safe, Dan agrees. Alex is the one who got away and Dan sees this as an opportunity to take up where they left off.
It seems as if there is no safe place for Alex, Dan and Gail, the child. Everywhere they go, The Trust mysteriously appears, and they barely escape with their lives. However, when they and the other six who escaped The Trust with Alex fall into a trap, it becomes a competition to see who can outsmart whom and come out alive.
What an unbelievable book. There were more twists and turns in this story than you would find on the Indy 500. I loved it! Ms. Elbaum paints characters with true personalities; there were no cookie cutter people in this book. Alex and Dan’s emotions, as well as those of the secondary characters were blatantly and brilliantly drawn. The situations were genuine and I felt they could really happen. Watching Alex and Dan square off against each other as Alex attempts to fight off the attraction makes for sensual and exciting reading. Kudos to Ms. Elbaum! I highly recommend this book.
