Elizabeth Castle has life figured out. She left behind her old life in a small town. Her stable career, stable boyfriend, and stable car keep her happy. A plan she is following very closely because she does not want anything to stand in the way of the great life she is sure she can have. Although she starts to wonder whether something is missing from her life, she is not at all sure what it could be. Life has a way of throwing surprises and the one coming her way will be the shock of her life.

Buck Platner dreams of having another chance with Lizzie. Yet he is not sure how that will happen since she has moved away. He just goes on with his life working for his family's business. Unfortunate circumstances give him his best shot at getting to know Elizabeth once again. If only he can get his thoughts together enough to make it all seem real. Years have gone by since they dated and Buck is not sure if he is willing to give it another shot, but his heart keeps telling him to go for it.

Never giving Victory, California a second thought, Elizabeth enjoys her life in Los Angeles. A telephone call jolted her memory back to life growing up in Victory. Her best friend in high school is killed in a car crash along with her husband and she is now the guardian of their child whom she has never met even though she helped name the little girl. She is not sure if she can handle the responsibility, not to mention the fact that she is not sure if the child will take kindly to living with her. Buck is being a total sweetheart yet her friends think she is crazy. She is not even sure whom to ask for advice anymore. Her world is about to change and all she can think about is how it will affect her life with her now fiancé, Dan. Elizabeth is in for one rude awakening. Will she still get her happily ever after?

This book is one emotional thrill ride. Elizabeth has a lot going on and must learn to deal with it all. At least she has friends who will help her. Ms Sawyer presents the cutthroat society of L.A. very well. I enjoyed the book immensely! The emotional struggles of Elizabeth were comical at times. I hope this is not the last we hear of these characters because they could tell us so much more.
